Counter-Islamophobia Kit Project: Countering Islamophobia through the Use of Best Practice in Counter-Narratives in EU Member States

Counter-Islamophobia Kit Symposium

Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies, School of Sociology and Social Policy – University of Leeds

27th November 2018

The Counter-Islamophobia Kit project is a two-year research project led by the University of Leeds and funded by the EU Rights, Equality and Citizenship program (JUSTJUST/2015/RRAC/AG/BEST/8910). The work documents and critically analyses dominant Islamophobic narratives, and related best practices employed in eight EU member states (Belgium, the UK, France, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Portugal, and the Czech Republic) in order to produce the Counter-Islamophobia Toolkit. This Toolkit identifies and postulates narratives, arguments, strategies and actions that will be able to directly counter Islamophobia and set guidelines on best practice aimed at countering Islamophobia.

The Counter-Islamophobia Kit Symposium, hosted by the Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies, within the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds brings together leading experts in Islamophobia studies, policy makers, legal experts, media professionals, artists and expert researchers from the eight cases studied within the remit of this project. The event promises to provide space for stimulating discussion related to the Counter-Islamophobia Kit project, its findings and the toolkit, along with discussion related to continued countering of Islamophobia.

Participation is free of charge. To confirm attendance please contact Dr Amina Easat-Daas (a.easat-daas@leeds.ac.uk)
