Dr Hassan Bousetta has a PhD in Social and Political Sciences. He is a FNRS Research Associate (National Fund for Scientific Research) based at CEDEM (Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Liège). He was previously at the University of Leuven and is a former Marie Curie Visiting Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship in the Department of Sociology of the University of Bristol (UK). Between 1994 and 1997, Dr Hassan Bousetta was a visiting fellow at the European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations at the University of Utrecht (Netherlands). From January 1997 till September 2000, he was at the Katholieke Universiteit of Brussel where he completed his PhD on the political mobilisation of Moroccans in four European cities. His current work focuses on the political participation of immigrant and Muslim minorities as well as on local multicultural policies.

Dr Elsa Mescoli is a post-doctoral researcher and lecturer assistant at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Liège (Belgium), associated with the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM). She is also member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA) and of the Belgian Political Science Association (ABSP). Her research and teaching activities concern different themes related to migration, among which transnational practices, intercultural dynamics, discrimination, and food, mainly with a focus on urban contexts. She has recently been in charge of studying Islamophobia in Belgium through a gender approach within the framework of the European Project leaded by the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) “Forgotten women: the impact of Islamophobia on Muslim women” (2015-2016). She obtained her PhD degree in Anthropology (University of Milan-Bicocca) and in Political and Social Sciences (University of Liege, co-tutorship) with a thesis on the culinary practices of Moroccan migrants in Italy.
